Is it more useful to grasp the theory of management and leadership or is it more useful to grasp the practical implications? This is a bit of a trick question since it is most useful to grasp both the theory and the practical applications. I capped off my thirty year management career in industry with doctoral study in management and I strive to provide a theoretically valid system of practical action to students, audiences, and coaching/consulting clients. Corporate Venture Capital
My recently completed doctoral research is an empirical study of knowledge spillover in Corporate Venture Capital investments between investor firms and entrepreneurial start-up firms. My results cast serious doubt on how frequently the investor firm appropriates knowledge from the start-up firm and begins the exploration of how start-up firms can manage the corporate venture capital investment to achieve a "win-win" outcome for both the start-up and the investor firm. Instructions for accessing this research will be added to this website upon publication.
Executive challenges at Small and Medium Enterprises
Two recently completed cases study research projects shed light on connecting the current management research literature to the executive challenges of business turn-arounds and building a department to deliver a pipeline of new products. These case studies deliver insight into the often neglected topic of facing these challenges as the leader of an SME or Small and Medium Enterprise. Contact me for copies of this conference papers.
